Getting ready for something new….

Recently I was contacted by the DuPage Children’s Museum to create a water sculpture for their facility.  The museum is just what you would expect:  A place for kids to have fun while discovering new things, and experiencing how those things work. Filled with colour and super-fun looking mechanical and scientific installations, the DuPage Children’s Museum must be a dream place for kids of all ages to visit and hang out.

Speaking of hanging out, the folks who curate the museum have asked me to design and build the piece to be a hanging water feature which will be installed directly above an already existing water table. Being somewhat unfamiliar with leading edge children’s stuff I had to Google “water table” to find out exactly what it was. Turns out it’s a modern-day sandbox, but without sand or even a box. A water table is just exactly that, and looks like a whole lot of fun to me. It’s a place to play in the water.  A curious child can crawl underneath the table and emerge into a huge plastic dome built into the middle of the table. The sculpture will hang directly over that dome. What an interesting site line this will be. I am full of ideas and can hardly wait to see it for myself. Photos will follow.

The sculpture will be a kinetic water feature with a Rube Goldberg, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory look. Epic fun for me and for the kids … I hope

The dimensions have been given, the water supply is in place, and I am starting to dream.

Stay tuned….
